SHiFT publicly and proactively supports the mission of the Black Lives Matter movement whose aim is to combat racism in modern-day society.
SHiFT is open to all children and young people regardless of race, gender or ethnicity, however, SHiFT acknowledges that there is an over representation of Black young people in the criminal justice system and that this over representation will therefore be mirrored in SHiFT programme participation. For this reason SHiFT must and will be supportive and vocal in challenging and breaking down racist systems and structures that may impede Black young people from making a positive contribution to our society and build a better life for themselves.
SHiFT is an organisation in its infancy and in time we shall be judged by our actions, but today we commit to continuously acknowledge, reflect upon and learn how to be anti-racist in our organisation’s ethos, construct and practice.
